As Generation Fertility is a registered establishment with Health Canada under the Safety of Sperm and Ova Regulations, participation in this program ensures health guidelines and regulations are met.

Under these requirements, known donors will be screened, tested and physically examined as they would if donating through an egg or sperm bank. Our clinic can review the details of the donation and may permit a donation that would not normally be processed in accordance to regulations, so long as we evaluate the donation to not pose a serious risk to human health and safety of the recipient and the future child. While the safety of donation is a priority, the directed donation program gives the donor and recipient more flexibility in selecting their donor.

For known donors and donation recipients, the preparation process is as follows:

  1. Consultation appointment for the donor and recipient with each of their Generation Fertility doctors to discuss the Directed Donation Program

  2. Register with Generation Fertility for the Directed Donation Program (note there is a program management fee)

  3. Appointment with the Fertility Counsellor for fertility counselling

  4. Appointment with Generation Fertility Known Donor Coordinator to arrange the required testing and signing of consents
