Preserving Fertility

People may consider preserving their fertility for various reasons, which typically fall into one or two categories, either medical necessity or elective choices.

Available Options to Preserve Fertility:

Egg Cryopreservation:

Preserving eggs for future use involves about two weeks of hormonal stimulation using an injectable medication, followed by a ten-minute procedure to extract eggs from the ovaries through the vaginal canal under local anesthesia. These eggs are then frozen and stored for the long term until you decide you are ready to conceive.

Embryo Cryopreservation:

Preserving embryos until you are prepared for pregnancy involves undergoing the same stimulation as egg cryopreservation. Following the extraction of eggs, they are fertilized with either partner or donor sperm to form embryos, which are subsequently frozen for long-term storage until you are ready.

Sperm Freezing:

You can choose to preserve sperm in a bank if you may encounter challenges in producing viable sperm during or after medical treatment. To enhance sperm viability, consider providing approximately three semen samples on average, and practice sexual abstinence for two to five days before each sample collection.

L.A.'s Story

When my husband and I decided we wanted to start a family, we thought it would come easy. You know, you want a baby, you get pregnant after a couple months and you have a baby. Unfortunately, it was not so simple for us. After months and months of tracking ovulation, buying every TTC gadget under the sun, trying to just be spontaneous and “stop stressing” as everyone says, we decided it was time to get help and we were referred to this clinic.

L.W.’s Story

For some, making a baby is quick and easy and fun! For others it involves cycle monitoring, daily self-injections and the dreaded two week wait. Some people decide to get pregnant and conceive within a few months of trying. Others have to go through painful procedures and terrible heart aches for years; working towards something they can only hope will one day happen for them.
